As part of my press work in London I photographed a lot of live bands which was something I always enjoyed, whether it was a seedy little club venue or a huge stadium. Sadly, through time, most of those images, which were shot on film, have disappeared into picture agency vaults and will probably never be seen again.

When I left London in 2001 I stopped shooting music to concentrate on other stuff. Then in 2003 came a call from the past - an old colleague of mine needed someone to shoot the Stones gig in Manchester. As a huge fan I didn’t need to be asked twice!

Once more I was crammed into a sweaty photographers pit awaiting the first song. It didn’t disappoint and I snapped away as Mick & Keith went through their repertoire of rock poses. The press were only allowed 3 songs which was standard for big bands, and I came away happy with my night’s work.

This was the last gig I photographed and without doubt my favourite.
