I always wanted to visit Myanmar as my Grandfather was there during the war (when it was Burma). In truth I didn’t know much about the country before I went and, unusually for me, I didn’t do too much planning. I wasn’t disappointed: the temples were beautiful and the novice monks wonderful to photograph once permission had been granted by the monastery.

My favourite part was Inle Lake and its incredible balancing fishermen who are very hard to photograph whilst bobbing around in a tiny boat! The lake then continues into a network of canals revealing small villages and vast areas of stupas almost in a jungle setting. Add to this lovely friendly people and it’s a trip I would recommend to anyone.
